MAY 2022 – Springwise Chair, James Bidwell, has appeared in Paris to host a series of panel discussions exploring the role of urban planning in creating thriving, resilient and inclusive cities.
Bidwell was joined for his first panel at ChangeNOW 2022 by the mayors of Lahti and Budapest, Pekka Timonen and Kata Tüttö, to discuss best practice and collaboration.
This was followed by an exploration of innovative ways to design greener, cooler and healthier cities. Here, Bidwell spoke with Eleni Myrivili, Senior Consultant for Heat Resilience for the City of Athens, and Sagnik Bhattacharjee, CTA for ECOTEN Urban Comfort – environmental consultants who build climate-proof cities.
Later, Bidwell welcomed Emilie Maehara, Deputy Executive Director for FMDV Global Fund for Cities Development. for a discussion on funding for city planning & development.
ChangeNOW, which has been dubbed ‘the largest event for the planet’, hosted 33,000 participants from 117 countries when it took place, 19-21 May. During the three-day event, Bidwell hosted a further session (‘Changing the Business as Usual Mindset’), and enjoyed a one-on-one chat with ‘Doughnut’ Economist Kate Raworth.
