DECEMBER 2021: Re_Set chairman, James Bidwell, has shared his predictions for retail in 2022 in an end of year report for World Retail Congress (WRC), published last week.
In the report, The Global Roadmap to Rebuilding a Better Retail, Bidwell focused on four key trend areas that will shape the coming months: climate change and resource scarcity; omnichannel commerce; leveraging data for value; and COVID-19-driven innovation.
His predictions were supported by emerging innovations from Springwise – Re_Set’s global innovation intelligence platform. These included a clickable carbon offsetting platform in New Zealand, a ‘phygital’ supermarket concept in Sweden, an AI-powered logistics firm in SIngapore, and a remote suit-fitting service in the UK.
“There is no time to lose as the world must sprint towards net zero – indeed, net positive,” said Bidwell in his introduction to the piece. “And retail, with its extraordinary reach, must lead the way.
“2022 will be the year where the enlightened retail CEOs and leadership teams pave the way for next-generation retail to become reality.”
