MARCH 2022: Re_Set’s James Bidwell and Hannah Mansour joined other experts and changemakers at the Edie Sustainability Leaders Forum in London this week.
The two-day conference, held at the Business Design Centre, saw thought-provoking discussion addressing all areas of the sustainability agenda, including net-zero transitions, the evolving needs of society, and the necessity of redefining business purpose.
Re_Set Chair, James Bidwell, led a workshop titled Debunking net-zero: translating global goals into business actions. Joined by the head of sustainability at TalkTalk, the head of environmental and climate action at Bupa, and a policy advisor for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the group discussed whether some companies were ‘cheating’ their way to net zero, the challenges and opportunities around carbon offsetting and Scope 3, and the key learnings for net-zero business leaders.
Re_Set Director of Innovation and Sustainability, Hannah Mansour, chaired a panel on sustainability in the built environment, titled Building for a zero-carbon economy. The panel included the group sustainability director at Barratt Developments, the CEO of the World Cement Association, the group climate change director at Costain, and the group sustainability manager at Ibstock.
Together, they explored a case study for how to make large-scale, carbon-negative concrete production a reality. The session also included practical examples of “building back greener” post-pandemic, and how to tackle the whole-life impact of buildings and embodied emissions in the built environment.
Other speakers at the event included founder and chair of the Centre for Climate Repair, Sir David King, founder of Peace One Day Jeremy Gilley, CSR expert, John Elkington, and the model-turned-activist, Lily Cole.
