08 Oct Why and How Re_Set Chose to Become a Certified B Corporation
All of us at Re_Set and Springwise continue to be humbled by our recent B Corp certification. Membership of this growing movement illustrates everything we aim to do as a company and, more importantly, what we do for our clients in our work as a strategy consultancy for innovation and sustainability. We work with CEOs and Boards on strategies to reinvent their businesses by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
Much of our client work focuses on strategy for sustainability and the climate crisis, running innovation and digital transformation programmes as well as delivering cultural and organisational change. All of this with a clear focus on positive impact and value creation, at pace.
“We are increasingly finding that our CEO and Board-level clients are asking us to work with them on environmental and social programmes. These are proven to drive differentiation as well as employee and customer engagement in an uncertain world. Three years after establishing Re_Set, becoming a B Corp, alongside our membership of 1% for the Planet, is a natural step for our growing businesses,” says James Bidwell, Co-founder of Re_Set and Chair of Springwise.
Becoming a Certified B Corporation is no mean feat, as the bar is very high — something we always knew but couldn’t fully appreciate until undertaking the process ourselves. However, we can easily say that it was well worth the effort in order to join a brilliant global community of over 3,500 purpose-driven businesses.
“The biggest challenge is finding the time to do it! The scope is so huge and being a small business, with limited resources, means you really have to be disciplined and methodical” says our operations manager Steph Feltham, who led our certification efforts.
We also know that to attract the best talent to our team, we need to prove that we are truly committed to running a purpose-driven business. This ethos has become increasingly important to prospective employees as they identify who they want to work for. Nothing establishes this more than becoming a Certified B Corporation.
“I think we learnt that as a business you can have the best intentions but you need to make sure you are backing them up with robust processes, policies and consistent training to ensure it’s followed through within the organisation” Steph adds.
Now that we are a Certified B Corporation, the work does not stop in staying true to our dedication to the movement. We have our sights set on reaching carbon-neutral status in the near future.
It’s just one of the ways we plan on making good on our certified status, and we expect more and more modern, successful companies to join us in meeting the rigorous social and environmental standards set by B Lab.
In the meantime, our client work gives the Re_Set teams the opportunity to leverage business as a genuine force for good in a very uncertain world. Every day.
